What will I do at a Fabrica Mosaics Workshop?
During the first hour or so, we discuss the technical side of creating a mosaic. We look at Health & Safety, tools, substrates (the base you create your mosaic on), adhesives, grout and tesserae (the pieces which create the mosaic)
Can I use glass in my mosaic?
The next stage will be learning how to cut and shape glass and you can have as much practice as you like. If you decide that cutting glass isn’t for you, there are many other options available for you to still create a piece to take home with you.
What will I be able to make during the session?
You will be able to make a small piece during the session. It helps to have an idea in mind which can be discussed beforehand. Substrates available to choose from include slate, MDF, Perspex and steel. The substrate you choose will depend on whether you would like the piece to be displayed indoors or outdoors.
Can I take my piece away with me?
Your creation will need to be grouted but this can’t be done on the same day as the adhesive needs a period of time to dry and cure. You can either return at a mutually convenient time, take the grout away with you and do it at home or I can grout for you.
Refreshments
I will provide tea/coffee/soft drinks and snacks. Please bring a packed lunch.
What else should I bring and what should I wear?
Please bring an apron and wear old clothes and closed in shoes.
